Stress is part of our lives. We cannot avoid it, and, actually, life without stress would be boring and we wouldn’t grow. What we need, then, is to be able to handle the stress that comes our way. There are a few kinds of stress:- Physical stress: Obviously, an injury is a source of physical stress. Also, any repetitive motions, overworking a muscle in the garden or on the computer, and even a lack of sleep contribute to physical stress. Early in life, learning to walk and ride a bike, even the birth process itself are forms of physical stress. You can enter the vicious circle by forming trigger points or experiencing muscle weakness. The key is to make yourself healthy enough to be able to deal with the stress and grow from it, not succumb to the entire cycle illustrated below.
- Emotional stress: Fear, grief, anger and other emotions affect our entire body. Notice the smaller circle that splits off with recurrent pain. Depression and an avoidance behavior can lead directly to the stress vicious cycle. Can a visit to a chiropractor solve your emotional problems? Well, we can make sure you are physically at your peak to be ale to handle the stress and break the cycle.
- Chemical stress: Common sources of chemical stress include poor nutrition, sugar, refined carbohydrates and unhealthy fats. Drugs, preservatives, tobacco, alcohol, vaccinations, pollen and a host of other substances also affect our nervous systems, muscle tone and our spine. Emotional stress also causes chemical stress as your hormones begin to cycle abnormally, causing constriction of capillaries and brain chemistry alterations.
